19. What’s the coldest you’ve ever been?
I played a Spanish courtier on a carnival float depicting a Tudor Christmas. I was advertising my friends’ (former seamstress with the Royal Covent Garden Opera House) company. It was 4c (39f) and I was dressed in a big, hooped dress that enabled me to wear thermal undies, but the top half just had a layer of thin material between myself and the elements. Apparently, I had gone from white to blue and in some areas – orange (never attributed orange as a cold colour, but there is a first time for everything). I was so cold that I could not undo the buttons on my dress. It is a small wonder that I did not die of pneumonia.
